Full voice not forced tone for singers

Untrained singers who sing 'loudly 'often sound 'yelly', 'pressed' or 'pushed'. This can lead to vocal fatigue and strain if done frequently. Facial expressions like grimaces or frowns may appear. Poor air management and alignment issues, such as locked knees or raised chins, are common. This style of singing often causes tuning problems, lacks musicality and feels effortful. Therefore, it's best to avoid it!

If you want a bigger sound, go for resonance instead.

Achieving a full and energized tone involves opening all resonating spaces and staying grounded in the body, using 'thighdraulics', maintaining constant airflow, getting resistance from expanded lower ribs, and having a bright, open, and expressive face. The mouth should be open and the tongue and jaw relaxed. The best part is that it feels vocally effortless for the singer!

At Endeavour Harmony Chorus, we teach resonance as one of our vocal areas. Learn more about our 2026 new member program here.
